Scholastic Book Fair

The annual Scholastic Book Fair is a fun event for the kids and a great way for our school to get more books and resources. Not only do students go home with lots of new books to read, but all profits are used for the teachers and media center to buy more books and resources that benefit our students. There are lots of ways to participate—shop for books at the school, buy books at the online book fair, send change and bills for All for Books, come to Family Reading Night, or any combination of these!

There are two ways to shop our school's book fair. You can shop at school and choose from a large selection of books, including affordable value books and Spanish-language books. Shopping in person also allows you to purchase books for your child's classroom using the teachers' wish lists. Or, you can shop online. There is an expanded selection of books available online, including free shipping to school. Family and friends are also welcome to shop our book fair online!

Each year, we host a Family Reading Night during the book fair. Come to school with your children to enjoy reading, crafts, games, and snacks with other school families. Information on the date and time of this year's Family Reading Night is in the sidebar.

There are several classroom activities organized during the book fair, including:

  • Students play games and compete in classroom contests geared toward building excitement for the book fair
  • All for Books: Students are encouraged to bring change and bills to put in their classroom canister. Classroom teachers get the money raised to spend at the book fair. Gift certificates to the book fair are given to the classes who raise Most Money and collect Most Coins.
  • Book Fair Bingo: Classes compete in a BINGO game that uses book titles and author names. Two classrooms win a gift certificate for their teacher to spend at the book fair.
  • Golden Tickets:  A couple of lucky students in each class get a certificate for a free book.
  • Reading Tickets: Students who get "caught" reading by an administrator win a free book.

See the sidebar for information on this year's book fair, including dates and times, onilne book fair information, and volunteer opportunities.  THANKS FOR SUPPORTING READING AND LITERACY AT WHITTIER!
