Whittier Mission Statement: The mission of Whittier International Elementary School is to inspire and educate young people in a supportive environment, which promotes academic excellence, confidence, creativity, and global understanding. Whittier Vision Statement: Our vision is for each child to be connected to the community and to contribute positively to their school, city, state, nation and the world by being humanitarians who demonstrate intercultural understanding, respect, and empathy for others.
We are pleased to announce that Whittier parent Fatuma Webi won this district-wide award! This award is given annually to a volunteer who has made outstanding contributions to Minneapolis Public School students and the community.
Fatuma is being honored for her work with all grade levels in our school, including her partnership with Music Specialist Kristin Bennett to bring Somali traditional music not only to Whittier but to other schools in our city. Learn more about her award here. Congratulations, Fatuma!
Whittier School is joining the Minneapolis Public Schools in their Reduce Our Trash (ROT) cafeteria organics recycling program. Whittier Student Council members and parent volunteers will help students begin recycling organic waste in our lunchrooms beginning the week of May 14.
