PTA Meetings

Our Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meets monthly during the school year on the second Monday of the month, 6:30-8:00pm in the school Media Center. There are a few exceptions to this routine, however, due to school release days. Please refer to the sidebar on the right for the 2016-17 monthly PTA meeting dates and times. 

All parents, caregivers, family members, teachers, and staff are invited to attend the monthly meetings. Each of our voices matters for all of our children. The PTA provides free childcare onsite as well as Spanish and Somali interpretation for each meeting.

Meeting "Hot Topics"

Each monthly PTA meeting kicks off with a "hot topic" relevant to parents and caregivers. A special presenter is invited to present each "hot topic." For the 2016-17 school year, the "hot topics" are:

September- PTA 101--Who Are We, What Do We Do & How Can You Get Involved

October- IB Reauthorization Update

November- Behavior Policy & Positive School-Wide Behavior

December- Family Involvement Plan & School Improvement Plan

January- Annual School Budget

February- No monthly PTA meeting. SPECIAL EVENT: Parent Involvement Day

March- School Budget Updates

April- World Language & Heritage Language Learning at Whittier

May- To Be Determined

 

In addition to the "hot topics", monthly agenda items typically incude:

  • A school update from school administrative team: Principal, Assistant Principal, or IB Coordinator, including brief Q&A
  • Discussion of topics that affect our school
  • Planning for upcoming school events and PTA fundraisers
  • Other topics, as necessary
