Calling All Reading Superheroes!
The 2017 Whittier Read-a-thon is February 9 through February 24th. This is our 7th annual event to promote literacy, get kids excited about reading, and raise funds for classroom supplies, field trips, Amity intern, McPhail music program, and so much more. Help us raise $10,000 during this year’s Read-a-thon!
Students will receive Reading Logs to track minutes read (or minutes read to) during the event, and to track donations from:
All students who participate by turning in a Reading Log will be entered into a raffle drawing. If they meet their grade’s Reading Superhero Goal, they will receive an additional raffle ticket.
Students who collect donations to the school will also receive additional raffle tickets:
Reading Superhero Goals
Record the minutes read at home each day on your Reading Log. Everyone who turns in a Reading Log gets a raffle ticket. Reading Superheroes who reach these grade-level goals will receive an additional ticket:
On Feb. 24, add up all your minutes read
Please contribute $10 or more, so Whittier can continue to provide Amity Interns, classroom books & field trips, and music/arts programming (like MacPhail).
Please help us reach our goal of $10,000!

Thanks for your support!
The Read-A-Thon takes a lot of work by our parent volunteers! To help, please contact the event chair directly or email the PTA. The event chair can also answer any questions about the Read-A-Thon.
1. It's a great way to encourage literacy by promoting daily reading and making reading fun.
2. It's an event where everyone can participate--no purchase required, lots of books are offered for free by our school and local libraries.
3. It's an efficient and effective way to raise funds--the event is for a short period of time and donations can come from a broad range of family and friends; plus, the profits aren't shared with anyone else--100% of the money raised goes to benefit the school.
