5th grade Exhibition

The 5th grade Exhibition marks an important milestone in a PYP IB student’s journey! Exhibition begins next week.  This years exhibition upholds the Central Idea:

Change and growth can be communicated through artistic expressions. We are always looking for ways to invite members of our learning community, extending to our parents into this process.  In particular, if you are an artist yourself and/or you are connected to an artist/artistic organization, we would like to  share this talent and experience with our 5th grade classrooms  for inspiration and guidance.

Please contact IB coordinator Libby Dominguez, libby.dominguez@mpls.k12.mn.us if you are interested.
Measles Outbreak

The health office would like to inform parents that health officials at Hennepin county health department are investigating a current outbreak of measles in Hennepin County. As of 4/17/2017, there were 9 cases documented. Measles is a very contagious disease. The best way to protect yourself and your children from measles is to make sure everyone has been vaccinated with the measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) vaccine.

American Refugee Committee

As part of our I.B. Action Cycle, Whittier Somali families will be collecting donations for the American Refugee Committee to help meet urgent needs in famine-stricken East Africa.  Many of our students have family members who have affected by the famine, and this will be a great chance for Whittier to show it’s support for them in these difficult times.  Bring some spare change of foldable money to support the cause.  They can also accept checks to the “American Refugee Committee”.

Plant Sale!

The annual Whittier Plant Sale is coming up on May 11-13. Place your pre-orders NOW at WhittierPlantSale.org or find more information on the PTA Plant Sale page.

Día del Niño on 4/28

Celebrate International Children's Day at school on Friday, April 28 from 5-8pm.  Bring a dish to share for a potluck meal.  Visit passport stations to learn about other cultures.  Enjoy music and dance performances starring special guests and Whittier children at the closing ceremony.
