October is National Farm to School Month

October is National Farm to School Month – a celebration of food education, school gardens, and school meals made with healthy, local food! And there a variety of ways that MPS students, staff, and families can celebrate Farm to School Month during distance learning.

Great Lakes Apple Crunch | October 5-9 - The Great Lakes Apple Crunch is a fun and easy way to celebrate Farm to School Month! During the week of October 5-9, MPS Culinary & Wellness Services will serve local apples in our FREE school meal boxes so ALL students can participate by CRUNCHING into local apples. Folks across the Great Lakes Region will be crunching on October 8 at 12pm, but MPS is encouraging families and schools to crunch any time that week (October 5-9).

Also October 5-9: Celebrate Walk & Bike to Anywhere Week - October 5-9 is Walk & Bike to Anywhere Week in Minnesota, and schools are encouraged to invite families and staff to participate. Participation is easy—simply walk or bike somewhere every day. And the good news is regular participation in these types of movement has been shown to decrease tension, elevate mood, improve focus, and lead to better sleep.
