From Minnesota Department of Human Services: Hundreds of thousands of Minnesota children may be eligible for additional food benefits through P-EBT, short for Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer. To receive benefits as soon as possible, submit an Application for Educational Benefits. Eligible families will begin to be issued new P-EBT cards starting in late March. MPS Families – please check your email to learn more about your eligibility and how benefits will be distributed from the State of Minnesota. Learn more about P-EBT at https://mn.gov/dhs/p-ebt/.

How will you receive P-EBT Benefits?

The state of Minnesota will distribute EBT benefit cards to eligible families. Families will be mailed a new P-EBT card for each qualifying student.

P-EBT cards will be mailed using the address that MPS has on file for your qualifying student. To confirm or update the address on file, please contact the secretary at your student’s school no later than Friday, February 19, 2021.

Please note that in order to receive P-EBT benefits, Minneapolis Public Schools must provide information on you and your child. This information includes:

  • Student’s name and birthdate
  • Student’s primary home language
  • Parent/guardian’s name, phone number, email address and mailing address
  • Dates in which the student elected distance learning during the 2020-21 school year

This information will only be used for the P-EBT program in Minnesota. Your data will not be used for any other purposes.

If you do not want your information shared, we will not share it. If you opt out of sharing your information, you will not receive P-EBT benefits. If you do not want your information shared, please notify us by Friday, February 19, 2021 by emailing the name and birthdate of your student(s) to info.cws@mpls.k12.mn.us

For more information about P-EBT benefits, please visit the state’s website here or view the FAQs

Please Note:  Whittier families do not need to sign up or apply!  Our Whittier families will automatically get the benefits as Whittier is a CEP school, or a school with free meals to all. Therefore, all Whittier families are eligible for P-EBT.  If these families also have students at a non-CEP school, the students would need to qualify for free or reduced meals. If they are approved for free or reduced meals, they will also get the benefits automatically.
