Tasha Novotny

Hello! I’m Tasha Novotny, students know me as “Ms. Tasha”, and I am delighted to be a school social worker at Whittier International this year! I currently reside in Minneapolis with my two kids, my husband and our dog. When I’m not at work I enjoy reading, gardening, spending time with friends and family, and playing volleyball.

I have worked for Minneapolis Public Schools since 2015. I received my Bachelors of Science and Social Work from Minnesota State University, Mankato and later my Masters of Social Work from the University of MN, Twin Cities. My practice consists of Cognitive/Behavioral and Solution Focused techniques along with an emphasis in Critical Race Theory. I seek to empower students and families while working with the strengths and resources they already own. I enjoy helping students learn and develop new skills, which will help them be successful in school, learning and future adventures.

This is my first year at Whittier International and it is such a privilege to have the opportunity to get to know and support Whittier students and families. At Whittier I will serve grades 3-5 along with one of the Federal Setting III classrooms. I work with students who are experiencing social, emotional and behavioral concerns which may impact their attendance and academic success. I will also work with families who are in transition and/or crisis situations.

I look forward to supporting students in some awesome learning and community engagement this year!
