Welcome to High Five at Whittier! We are excited you are joining our school family! The Whittier High 5 Program is a half-day program for Minneapolis children who turn four by September 1st and who will start kindergarten the following fall.
***Please Note: For the 2021-2022 School Year, we wil have 2 full-day High 5 classrooms. One of these classrooms will be taught in English and the other will be taught "one-way dual-language" in Spanish (MUST be a native Spanish speaker for entry into this classroom).
In High Five, we create a positive school experience that promotes independence and a love for school and learning. Throughout the day, your student will engage in a variety of rich learning opportunities that include both academic and social skills. Here are a few skills we work on in High Five:

Social Emotional Lesson - 10 min
Guided Play - 30 minutes
This is more unstructured learning play time with peers.
Small Groups - 30 minutes
Students will be in smaller groups (4-5 students) engaging with teachers on math, literacy, and social emotional activities. These groups will have a set time and be for 15 minutes for each group.
Movement and Closing - 30 min
11:30 - 12:30 - Independent Learning (students)
Listen to recorded read aloud
Specialist activity - 30 min (every other day)
Complete daily SeeSaw activities - 30 min

*Every other day children rotate to a Specialist – The rotation of Specialists includes Art, Music, Gym, Media Center, and Maker Space. Non-Specialist days students are given Free Choice Time. This is a time that children choose Learning Centers such as sensory table, art, play dough, doll house, book nook, block building, math center, kitchen, table toys.
